Develop your skills and increase your knowledge around supporting people who have engaged in sexual harm, understanding the different pathways to harmful sexual behaviour, and how to help prevent harm from happening again.

Overview and Learning Intentions

  • Build your confidence when working with whai ora who have engaged in sexual violence

  • Gain an understanding of the pathways into harmful sexual behaviour (HSB)

  • Develop your skills and confidence to reduce risk factors, and increase/develop protective factors

  • Learn where to seek support and referral pathways

In the workshop we will cover:

  • What is Harmful Sexual Behaviour (HSB)?

  • Language matters

  • Myth busting and facts/statistics

  • Pathways into HSB - why do people do it?

  • How does HSB differ from other forms of harm like physical or psychological violence? (similarities and differences)

  • How to manage your own responses to working with people who commit HSB (worker care)

  • Risk factors and protective factors

  • How to lower risks and increase protective factors in their work with Whai Ora

  • How to have conversations with other agencies about the HSB when referring

  • Dealing with HSB disclosures (like Child Sexual Exploitation Material use or HSB thoughts)

  • Referral pathways (including adult, adolescent, and child teams at Stop)

Stop is a community-based service that provides assessment and treatment for adults who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviour, against adults and children. Our goal is a community free from sexual harm.

Facilitated by Di Sargent and Steph Schnoor

Di Sargent Masters of HSc., PG Dip. Addiction, PG Dip. Social Work, PG Dip. Management, BA Psych  

Di works as a senior clinician at Stop Trust. She has 30 years of work-experience in child protection, mental health and addictions, often holding leadership roles. A thread throughout her career has been residential work. As a lifelong learner, she holds postgraduate qualifications in psychiatry, addiction, management, social work and health sciences.

Steph Schnoor BA Ch Fam Psych, BA (Hons) Soc Sci, MCSW

Stephworks as a specialist clinician and a Senior Advisor at Stop Trust. She has worked across several specialist areas working in eating disorders, mental health, psychiatry and addictions. Working across all her specialist services, she has aimed to maintain both clinical and leadership positions concurrently. She holds postgraduate qualifications in Social Science and Clinical Social Work.

  • Cancellations made up to 10 working days before a workshop will incur a $39 service fee.

  • Cancellations (or non-attendance) made 10 working days or less will not be refunded and the full workshop fee will be charged. 

  • No fee applies if you are able to find a replacement participant.

  • MHERC reserves the right to cancel a workshop at any time due to unforeseen circumstances or insufficient registrations.

  • Only one person may view a webinar session per registration.
