This workshop will provide an overview of traditional attachment theory as well as current approaches in relation to trauma in children and young people.

Aim

This workshop will provide an overview of traditional attachment theory as well as current approaches in relation to trauma in children and young people. Through an attachment lens, participants will gain insight into many of the issues that children and young people might present with. We will discuss how this insight might influence our practice.  The need for reflective practice is emphasised and discussed from an attachment perspective. The workshop aims to provide the participants with, not only a deeper understanding of the theoretical, but also the practical aspects of working with attachment.

Overview and Learning Intentions

  • Gain an understanding of an overview of attachment theory

  • Understand how attachment is intended to develop

  • Reflect on the relationships between attachment, emotions, play, development, maturation and wellbeing

  • Gain a basic understanding of attachment in relation to trauma

  • Explore practical ways of working with children and young people from an attachment framework

  • Understanding the importance of working within a child’s attachments and how we can work effectively with parents

Sandy is a counsellor who has worked extensively with children, young people and their parents.  She currently works in primary schools and in private practice.  Sandy offers workshops, seminars and training to professionals and parents.

  • Cancellations (or non-attendance) made 10 working days or less will not be refunded and the full workshop fee will be charged. 

  • No fee applies if you are able to find a replacement participant.

  • MHERC reserves the right to cancel a workshop at any time due to unforeseen circumstances or insufficient registrations.

  • Only one person may view a webinar session per registration.
