This interactive workshop teaches participants the skills and information to support youth suicide, suicide attempt behaviours and self-injury (NSSI).
Description
Aim
This workshop will provide information about youth suicide, suicide attempt behaviours and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI). Participants will develop an understanding, skills and the confidence to recognise, assess and respond to young people at risk of suicide and those who engage in self-injury. We will explore further how to distinguish between suicidal behaviours and NSSI. We will also learn how to develop safety plans for at-risk young people.
Overview and Learning Intentions

Apply evidence-based depression and suicide risk screening tools

Facilitated by Dr Annette Beautrais
PhD
Annette is New Zealand's most experienced suicidologist, an academic who has been studying suicide research and prevention, and teaching about suicide prevention for more than 30 years. She has worked in New Zealand and internationally, has published extensively and has won international awards for her research. Currently Annette is Senior Advisor, Suicide Prevention, Te Wai Pounamu, Health NZ and Suicide Prevention Coordinator, South Canterbury. In addition, she works as an educator and consultant to a range of organisations, and runs training programmes in suicide prevention throughout the country. Annette has worked with the World Health Organisation and served on the board of the International Association for Suicide Prevention.

Cancellations (or non-attendance) made 10 working days or less will not be refunded and the full workshop fee will be charged.
