Traumatic brain injury can significantly affect day-to-day functioning and interactions with others. We'll examine how to manage challenging behaviours and communication styles that can result from TBI, and learn how to access specialist services.

Learning Intentions

  • Learn key facts about TBI in Aotearoa and how to recognise the signs and symptoms.

  • Understand how comorbidities, such as mental health issues and alcohol or drug problems, often occur alongside TBI.

  • Explore issues that can prevent someone with TBI from successfully engaging in the community.

  • Learn about the complex communication and behavioural issues that may result from a TBI.

  • Build strategies to work successfully with clients with TBI, including appropriate referral mechanisms.
