Therapy Dogs Aotearoa – An introductory into Therapy Dogs in Animal Assisted Services

Aim

This workshop aims to bring insight and awareness to the Animal Assisted Services sector in Aotearoa, New Zealand. This workshop is for anyone who works in Allied health, Education, community services or in a volunteer role who is either currently or wanting to work with their dog in their professional roles. Our mission is to promote professionalism and high ethical standards for therapy participants, therapy animals and professionals in the industry. We started running workshops in 2014 and training dog & handler teams in 2016. Our team consists of psychologists, research professionals, educators, Counsellor, and formally accredited dog trainers.

Facilitated by Caitlin Thomas

Caitlin is a Counsellor and dog trainer who works across two companies working in private practice as well as with Therapy Dogs Australia. Working primarily with people on the Autism Spectrum, Caitlin works with her trained Therapy Dogs to provide Animal Assisted Therapy in 1:1 and group settings. Caitlin also facilitates dog training and content delivery with Therapy Dogs Australia during our online courses.
Caitlin is a Ngāi Tahu wahine who was born and raised is Ōtautahi.


Workshop Type: Entrance – No prior understanding of Animal Assisted Services (AAS) required.

Terms and Conditions

  • Cancellations made up to 10 working days before a workshop will incur a $39 service fee.

  • Cancellations (or non-attendance) made 10 working days or less will not be refunded and the full workshop fee will be charged. 

  • No fee applies if you are able to find a replacement participant.

  • MHERC reserves the right to cancel a workshop at any time due to unforeseen circumstances or insufficient registrations.

  • Only one person may view a webinar session per registration.
