Overview

This interactive workshop will provide a comprehensive introduction to Motivational Interviewing (MI). Participants will learn up-to-date information and be introduced to the fundamental skill set of MI, in order to help people engage in behaviour change. This workshop will be particularly valuable if you are working with others and are wanting to enhance your engagement skills, improve your listening skills, strengthen an individual’s motivation, and help people engage in behaviour change.

Learning Intentions

  • Explore how motivational interviewing works.

  • Develop your understanding of the MI process - engagement, focus, evoke, plan.

  • Explore key MI skills - OARS: open questions, affirmations, reflections, summaries.

  • Develop fundamental skills to help people engage in behaviour change.

  • Build strategies to evoke and strengthen 'change talk'.

  • Learn ways to help people to strengthen their motivation towards a specific goal.

Who Should Attend?

Everyone who supports people to make changes in their lives and wants to enhance their engagement and listening skills, including counsellors, therapists, social workers, health practitioners, support workers, coaches, and community health workers.

  • Cancellations more than 10 working days before a workshop will incur a $39 service fee; alternatively, we can transfer you to another date/workshop at no charge.
  • Cancellations within 10 working days (or non-attendance) are non-refundable and charged in full. Transfers may be approved for extenuating circumstances and incur a $39 fee.
