One in three young New Zealanders will experience a mental health challenge.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is an internationally acclaimed and evidence-based, accredited training programme that equips individuals with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to support young people (aged 11-18) who may be experiencing a mental health challenge or mental health crisis. 


What you’ll gain:
• Develop your understanding of mental health and the factors that may affect wellbeing
• Learn to recognise the signs that a young person may be experiencing a mental health challenge
• Explore specific mental health challenges that impact young people including anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and behaviours, substance misuse and trauma
• Gain the confidence to know how to initiate a conversation about mental wellbeing with a young person 
• Gain an understanding of self-care and safety for youth mental health first aid responders
• Receive youth mental health first aid resources


This programme has been informed by people with lived-experience as well as clinical and research experts. It is adapted to honour Aotearoa’s cultural context and is delivered by accredited instructors.


Who should attend:
Anyone who is responsible for the wellbeing and health of young people, including; teachers, youth workers, educators, coaches, leaders of faith communities, and anyone who is wanting to know how to better support young people who may be experiencing a mental health challenge.

 

Each course is held over two days:

Day 1: Thursday 30 January 2025, 9.00am - 4.30pm

Day 2: Friday 31 January 2025, 9.00am - 4.30pm
