Overview
This workshop supports those who provide health and community services in home environments, where ensuring safety and respect for all involved is paramount. We'll explore potential risks to workers and clients when working in private homes and the community, discuss risk assessment and management, and identify potential threats. You'll develop skills to establish personal boundaries and increase your confidence to manage challenging situations respectfully. These insights will help you decrease risk and work safely in community settings.
Learning Intentions
- Discuss risks and hazards with others who do similar work in the community.
- Identify potential threats to your own safety.
- Use a risk matrix to explore risk assessment and management.
- Learn how to take specific actions that decrease risk and increase confidence when dealing with challenging situations.
- Explore professional boundaries and how to apply them.
- Review and develop a personal safety plan.
Who Should Attend?
Everyone who visits clients in their homes or works in community settings, including health practitioners, social workers, support and care workers, therapists, and outreach workers.

- MHERC may reschedule or cancel a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances or insufficient registrations. If this occurs, you may transfer to another date/workshop, receive a credit, or request a refund.
- Substitutions are free if you arrange a replacement participant.
- Cancellations more than 10 working days before a workshop will incur a $39 service fee; alternatively, we can transfer you to another date/workshop at no charge.
- Cancellations within 10 working days (or non-attendance) are non-refundable and charged in full. Transfers may be approved for extenuating circumstances and incur a $39 fee.
