Overview

This workshop provides an overview of current approaches to working with people experiencing co-existing mental health and substance use challenges. Deepen your understanding of substance misuse, the pathways to addiction, and the complications associated with CEP. Learn how to promote harm-reduction strategies - including support for those seeking abstinence - and explore how services can effectively support recovery.

Learning Intentions

  • Understand substances of misuse and complications associated with CEP.

  • Learn how to promote a harm-reduction approach with people who have problematic substance use.

  • Explore pathways/development of addiction through a CEP lens; substance categories, triggers, cross-addiction, and coping strategies.

  • Understand the nature, extent and impact of CEP on people’s lives and how services can support recovery.

  • Learn how to apply brief interventions by developing harm reduction skills (including support for those wanting abstinence).

Who Should Attend?

Everyone working in mental health, health, addiction, and social services who supports people experiencing co-existing mental health and substance use problems.
