Overview

Compassion is an essential component for anyone working in care professions and, as a result, there is an inherent risk of developing compassion fatigue. This interactive workshop explores what personal, professional, and organisational factors increase the likelihood of experiencing burnout and fatigue. As well as considering how to identify and respond, it also suggests approaches and strategies to enhance resilience and maintain professional long-term wellbeing.

Learning Intentions

  • Explore common causes, indicators, components, and stages of fatigue and burnout.

  • Learn how to proactively assess and respond to early warning signs.

  • Learn how to increase and maintain your personal and professional wellbeing.

  • Explore the signs and behaviours of over/under identification and involvement.

  • Learn how to create and maintain strong emotional boundaries whilst staying connected to the meaning and purpose of your role.

  • Develop healthy approaches to help you process the emotional impacts of your role.

Who Should Attend?

Everyone working in a helping/caring/education role in either a professional or personal capacity, including experienced carers/workers/volunteers who have repeatedly experienced fatigue and burnout, and those new to the helping professions who wish to safeguard their wellbeing. Peers, leaders, and managers wishing to better support each other/their teams to manage and cope with the impacts of their role.
