Overview
Mental health diagnoses can shape how people are perceived and treated, yet the lived experience behind these labels is often overlooked. In this workshop you'll gain a foundational understanding of diagnoses such as anxiety, psychosis, and mood disorders, and explore what these mean for people in their daily lives. We'll also examine the intersection of clinical understanding and lived experience, to help you develop the knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, informed support.
Learning Intentions
•Gain insight into the lived experiences of people with mental health diagnoses, and how a diagnosis can affect individuals.
•Understand of the impact of diagnostic labels and reflect on your own unconscious biases and misunderstandings.
•Explore risk factors, causes, and effective support options for those living with mental distress.
•Describe effective support strategies to help individuals and their whānau (family) live well.
Who Should Attend?
Everyone who supports or seeks to better understand people experiencing mental distress or living with mental health conditions, including mental health workers, health practitioners, social workers, counsellors, support workers, and others in frontline or non-clinical roles.
