Overview
The diagnosis of borderline personality disorder (BPD) is often misinterpreted and misunderstood. In this workshop, you'll build your understanding of the complex aspects of BPD and explore the diagnostic criteria and potential causes. We'll unpack the role of trauma and other adverse life events and examine the impacts on individuals and whānau. You'll learn to identify and address misconceptions and discrimination and develop effective and safe strategies and responses to help support someone with BPD.
Learning Intentions
- Gain an understanding of the complex aspects of borderline personality disorder, including diagnostic criteria and potential causes.
- Unpack the role of trauma and other adverse life events in relation to BPD.
- Examine the impacts of BPD on individuals and whānau.
- Identify and address misconceptions and discrimination, and understand their impact.
- Learn about recommended treatments and develop effective, safe strategies to support someone with BPD.
Who Should Attend?
Everyone who works with or supports people diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, including mental health workers, counsellors, social and support workers, nurses, psychologists, case managers, and whānau wanting to better understand and support their loved ones.
