Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: Applying DBT Informed Skills

This workshop follows on from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: Key DBT Skills for Helping Clients with Emotion Regulation. This workshop will focus on individual sessions and incorporating DBT skills as well as other DBT strategies into practice.

Aim

This workshop will focus on individual sessions and incorporating Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills as well as other DBT strategies into practice. It aims to enhance participant's knowledge of applying DBT skills into their daily practice with clients, particularly in individual sessions.
Please Note: You need to have attended MHERC's DBT: Key Skills for Emotion Regulation workshop or equivalent in order to attend this workshop.

Overview and Learning Intentions

  • Reminder of key aspects of DBT therapy

  • Discuss distress tolerance and emotion regulation skills to increase confidence in working with clients and managing difficulties with regulating emotions

  • Assessing problem behaviours and generating solutions

  • Stylistic strategies to effectively evaluate problem behaviours and generate solutions with clients

MSc(Hons), BSc(Psych), PGDip. Child&Family Psych

Jess is an experienced child and family psychologist working with children, young people, and their families in community mental health settings. Currently working for Child, Adolescent and Family Community Services at Te Whatu Ora – Waitaha (formerly CDHB), she is skilled in supporting children and adolescents across a range of difficulties including helping adolescents with chronic suicidal and self-harm behaviour.
