Aim
This workshop aims to expand the knowledge of alcohol problems and depression in the elderly. You will learn about the typical and atypical clinical presentations in the elderly and get an update on the treatment services available in Christchurch. There will also be reflection on these conditions and their related issues in places of work.

Overview
• Alcoholism in the elderly, problems, diagnosis and medication, specific issues in the elderly
• Depression in the elderly, diagnosis, treatment, suicide and special issues
• Update of treatment services in Canterbury
• Discussion around related issues

Learning Intentions
Participants will be provided with the opportunity to:
• Register the issues of importance to them when they sign up and discuss them during the session
• Be updated on the two conditions and their related presentation and treatment issues
• Ask questions and discuss their perspective on the issues
• Be given practical information about referral and resources for treatment
