Aim
Each of us arrives to our role with various values and beliefs that are unique and important to us. Clients also have their own set of values and beliefs that are important to them. This often causes a clash. What this course will do is guide you to provide the support and care that meets the client’s needs in a way that maintains their and your personal, social and cultural identity. (Note this course does not teach you about other cultures – it helps you explore your own in relation to others)

• Personal identity, culture and worldview
• Values, beliefs, attitudes and assumptions
• Confident support
• Cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity and cultural safety

Learning Intentions
Participants will be provided with the opportunity to:
• Explore one’s own identity
• Understand how beliefs, values attitudes and assumptions impact on your role
• Understand what is meant by culturally safe practice
• Describe how you will provide culturally safe support/care for others
