Keeping Safe: Utilising Effective Breakaway Techniques in De-escalation


Course Type: Intermediate | Course Level: Five | Catering: Refreshment and light lunch provided

This course will teach the practical skills and evasive techniques needed to ensure that both you and your client are kept as safe as possible in a physical assault situation. The specific purpose of breakaway training is to train staff in techniques that would allow them, if assaulted, to successfully remove themselves from holds to the body. You will learn physical techniques including disengagement, and defense techniques for varying risk levels and situations.

• Assess the physical environment
• Recall and reflect upon verbal communication for de-escalation
• Physical techniques including disengagement, and defense techniques for varying risk levels and situations
• Applying reasonable and justifiable break away techniques

Learning Intentions
Participants will be provided with the opportunity to:
• Understand the law relating to self defense
• Demonstrate good practice in verbal communication skills, situational awareness and body language
• Practice and demonstrate effective breakaway techniques
