Aim
This workshop will provide an overview of synthetic drugs, what they are and how they have come to be used so frequently into today’s society. This workshop will provide information on acute and longer term effects of synthetic drugs. There will be tools provided on screening people for synthetic drugs and also on management of those using these. This will include withdrawal management and harm minimisation information also.

Overview
• Background to synthetic drugs: What are they, where do they come from?
• Common effects of synthetic drugs
• How to screen for synthetic drugs
• Management strategies for people using synthetic drugs
• Withdrawal management information for synthetic drugs

Learning Intentions
Participants will be provided with the opportunity to:
• Identify the different common types of synthetic drugs and their effects
• Practice using screening tools for assessing synthetic drug use
• Gain tools and strategies for management of synthetic drug use including harm minimisation
• Awareness of common signs and symptoms of synthetic drug withdrawal and how to manage this
