Minimising Alcohol and Drug Related Risks in the Workplace


This workshop has been structured specifically for those working in high risk environments, operating potentially dangerous machinery and tools.

Course Overview
• How AOD use affects people working in high risk and busy environments
• Introduction to different substances, and how they affect people
• Understanding the difference between abuse and dependence
• Introduction into appropriate identification of AOD usage, intoxication and withdrawal
• Awareness of safe drinking guidelines
• Practice providing a five-to-seven minute brief intervention for mild alcohol problems
• How to assess for signs of intoxication and withdrawal

Learning Intentions
Participants will be provided the opportunity to:
• Practice conducting a five-to-seven minute brief intervention for mild alcohol problems 
• Practice brief assessment skills for assessing alcohol and other drug use
• Gain an understanding of the benefits of providing brief interventions
• Develop an understanding of substances of misuse and complications with their use
