Aim
Recovery is a strategy developed by service users to promote meaning and purpose in their lives. Recovery goals and strategies promote ways of working with people with mental health issues as defined by themselves rather than by ‘mental health experts’. This workshop will introduce you to Recovery, to the theory and terminology and provide a service user perspective of good mental health practice. This workshop will discuss practical solutions to develop and achieve the service user's goals.

Overview
• Investigate developing a partnership with service users with service user led goals, hopes and values
• Develop and extend awareness of Recovery as a health imperitave
• Discrimination and personal attitudes of workers as a factor impeding recovery
• Promoting hope in service users as foundational to Recovery and to good practice
• An understanding for mental health workers into the concept and implementation of recovery

Learning Intentions
Participants will be provided with the opportunity to:
• Learn about the way people with mental health issues want mental health professionals to work with them
• Examine the movement in treatment from a deficit focus to an asset based focus
• Reflect on personal values that may underpin practice
• Determine the practice of a Recovery Focused Worker, working to a strengths based focus
