Aim
Recovery in mental health practice is about respecting and valuing the service user and working to their strengths. This course will introduce you to Recovery-based Practice, to the theory and terminology and provide a service user perspective of good mental health practice. The course will discuss practical solutions to develop and achieve the service user's goals.

Overview
• Investigate developing a partnership with service users with service user led goals, hopes and values
• Social inclusion in contrast to previous dominant medical philosophies
• Discrimination and personal attitudes of  workers as a factor impeding recovery
• The fundamental skill skill of promoting hope in service users
• An understanding for mental health workiers into the concept and implementation of recovery

Learning Intentions
Participants will be provided with the opportunity to:
• Explore the components of a holistic approach and service user led goals, hopes and values
• Examine the movement in treatment from a deficit focus to an asset based focus
• Reflect on personal values that may underpin practice
• Determine the practice of a Recovery Focused Worker, working to a strengths based focus
