Aim
This course is for professionals working with youth (10-24 years). Participants will be provided with the opportunity to increase and refresh their knowledge about what impacts on the exuberance and angst of adolescent years, and gain skills and confidence in gathering this information from the young people they work with. This will be an interactive course, drawing on the knowledge of the participants as well as the facilitator.

Overview
• Hear about some of the tough stuff that is going on in young people’s lives drawing
  from Youth 2012 research
• A brief look at youth development alongside risk and resiliency factors
• The HEEADSS assessment tool and how it works
• Practice using the tools to gain information

Learning Intentions
Participants will be provided with the opportunity to:
• Hear recent New Zealand data on youth health
• Learn to consider young people and their actions from a youth development perspective
• Gain a tool which is effective in establishing rapport and gathering information about
  a young person
• Practice carrying out a HEEADSS assessment
