Aim
This course is for people who would like to develop a greater understanding of mental health issues, in particular from an Asian perspective, in order to work more effectively with their Asian clients. The course will include findings of a research project, “Asian People's Healthcare Needs in the Wider Christchurch Area”, conducted with Partnership Health. Open and interactive discussion is encouraged throughout the presentation and Wayne uses narrative (story) throughout to illustrate key points.

Overview
• Asian culture in general
• Differences with Asian culture
• Mental illness from an Asian perspective
• Depression, alcohol and addiction issues in Asian populations

Learning Intentions
Participants will be provided with the opportunity to:
• Develop an understanding of Asian people
• Learn how best to communicate (verbal and non-verbal)
